New Project: “On The Take” The Fish

I thought I would invite you all into the processes behind my art.

This project I call “On The Take” because of the pose the subject takes.  The Brook trout is in a position of getting ready to feed.  If you have ever had the opportunity to watch a trout in its natural environs feed, it is an awesome experience.

My favorites are when the trout is feeding on the surface to take a newly hatched or hatching insect or when they viciously take a passing minnow.  Their take is as quick as a striking snake but more accurate.

Here is step one: The Blank

Step Two: Carve and Shape

Step Three: Sand and Prime

Step Four: Paint and Clear Coat

Even though I have been carving for almost 30 years, I am always so excited when a carving is completed.  It is so fascinating to watch as the dead wood magically comes to life.

I have several other projects in que at the moment but if you would like a custom piece, I will certainly get it done for you.  I work with my clients on price and detail to make your project a one of a kind.

Send me a note if you are interested, Christmas is around the corner but you still have time to get yours done.

I hope you enjoyed this part of the project and more will soon follow…

Tight Lines!
